Muzei Sources

MultiMuze addresses one of the core problems with Muzei – the inability to have multiple sources – and allows you to set any and all the installed extensions to be used for wallpaper source at the same time. The extension doesn’t have a default source of its own, and lists all the other extension that you may have to enable them all at once.

Muzei is one of my favorite wallpaper apps on Android. And that’s for two reasons. Muzei plugins let me import wallpapers from multiple sources and Muzei will take care of cycling wallpapers from the source automatically.

But Muzei is not the only app that can do this. If you don’t like how Muzei blurs the images or you think images are not high-quality, take a look at the alternatives below.

WallMax

WallMax is a simple wallpaper library app on the face of things. But buried in the settings you’ll find an Auto Awesome mode.

It’s not as sophisticated as some other apps listed here but basically you can pick a category, specify an interval time and the app will do the rest.

HPSTR Live Wallpaper

HPSTR Live Wallpaper is not pretending to be something it’s not. Just like Muzei, it will circle through curated wallpapers from sources like 500px, Unsplash, Reddit and more. The photos will be slightly dimmed and they have a translucent geometric figure superimposed on the top to give it that hip look.

If you decide to go pro ($2.49), you can select multiple sources and even play around with filters and the geometric figures.

Wallpaper Changer

Wallpaper Changer is the Muzei for your personal/downloaded photos.

Muzei Sources Online

To get started, you’ll first need to enable Wallpaper Changer’s live wallpaper. Then you’ll need to add photos to the album. You can do that by tapping the + button in Albums.

Wallpaper Changer lets you specify how often you want to change the wallpaper. The default is 30 minutes.

If you’re not interested in fancy wallpapers from the Internet and instead want to cycle through your personal or family photos instead, Wallpaper Changer is for you.

TapDeck

TapDeck is the latest entry in this space and it’s still in beta. The app’s premise is simple. Once you’ve set it up, all you have to do is double-tap on the free area on the screen to change the wallpaper and swipe up to view details about the photo.

Even though it’s in beta and the wallpaper library is not that large, TapDeck is amazingly fast. Tapping twice to change the wallpaper feels awesome.

Due to the beta stage, you need to create an account and wait for an invite (it showed up for me in an hour), sign up again, then confirm the account and sign in.
