Louis Vuitton One Letter Date Code

Being one of the most popular brands, Louis Vuitton is alsoone of the most counterfeited designer brands in the world. So, as an onlinebuyer, how does one avoid being fooled by sellers who pass their replicas asauthentic? First, educate yourself. Get as much information as you can aboutthe brand. Paying $500 or more for a bag isn’t cheap and you want to make sureyou’re getting your money’s worth by buying the real thing.

For starters, Louis Vuitton only introduced date codes during the 1980s, so if a bag was manufactured before that, it won’t have a date code. Another common instance is that bags that are lined in Alcantara, a suede-like microfiber material, are likely to have date codes that have been rubbed off over daily wear and use. Louis Vuitton Date Code is a combination of numbers and characters that allows you to identify where and when the item was made. Unlike Chanel bag serial number, for instance, LV date code is not. Features: In the mid-1980s, Louis Vuitton changed their date codes system that would now include letters representing the factory location each bag was manufactured in. Usually three or four digits followed were followed by two letters. In the late 1980s, two letters. While all Louis Vuitton bags have date codes you must remember that it alone does not tell you if a bag is authentic. It is merely just one piece of the puzzle. Louis Vuitton did not use date codes before 1982, therefore older vintage pieces can not be pinpointed as accurately as newer ones. 1982 to Mid 1980s.

It’s quite helpful to learn to understand the date codes. Here are some guidelines:
Louis Vuitton only started using date codes in the early 80’s.And yes, there are bags that are pre-date code and obviously won’t have datecodes on them. Naturally, these bags are old so beware of bags that look newand are claimed to be vintage. Also, be aware that these bags should be theclassic ones. I mean it’s common sense that it’s impossible to find avintage/pre-date code Neverfull.

In the early 80’s, Louis Vuitton started putting date codeson their bags. They started to use a three-digit-code representing the year andthe month the item was made. The first two digits represent the year while thelast digit represents the month. E.g. 834- this means the bag was made in April of 1983.

By mid 80’s, Louis Vuitton started adding letters to thecodes and they represent the place where an
item was made. E.g. MI 881- thismeans that the item was made in France in January 1988. Sometimes the lettersare separated from the numbers, sometimes they use a three-digit-code, oftentimes, four.

In the 90’s they started to use a different format. Stillwith two letters and four numbers, the date codes were much more complicated. The letters still represent the country, the first and third digits representthe month and the second and last digits represent the year. E.g. MI0060- thismeans that the item was made in France in June of 2000. This format was markedto items that were made from the early 90’s to 2006.

In 2007 they changed the representation once again. The datecodes are still with 2 letters and four numbers, the same format, but this timethe first and third number represent the week and the second and last digitstill represent the year. E.g AR0057- this means the item was made in France onthe 5th week of 2007.
